Configuring Computer Systems (p6)

Screen Resolutions:

In order to sort out the correct resolution for the screen, one must right click on the screen and open the selection of personalization (i.e. control panel). Drag the Screen resolution slider to the left to decrease the resolution of your monitor, making text and pictures appear larger. Or drag the Screen resolution slider to the right to increase your monitor’s resolution, making text and pictures appear smaller.
Click Apply to have the new resolution take effect. If the Monitor Settings dialog box appears, look at your display. If you like the new resolution, click Yes. If you do not like the resolution, click No, and return to step 3 to try a different resolution. Then Click OK if your happy.

Power Options in Windows XP allow you to control the power management features of:
  • Your display
  • Your hard drive
  • Shut Down, Hibernate, and Stand by
  • Low battery warnings
  •

I have configured the power saver options  to the following, turn off computer screen after 20minutes inactive and send the system into hibernation after every 2 hours if inactive, but usually these options are found on laptops or notebooks alike as the components have ‘shrunk’ in size , they've had to sacrifice the longer-lasting power that comes with large batteries. But at the same time, laptop chipsets and processors have gotten smarter about power management, making the most of these smaller batteries.

Mouse Options :
Within the accessibility options the left and right mouse options can be found where the mouse’s adjustability can be configured, how sensitive and how fast the mouse should work at.
Under Mouse options you can also change the pointer scheme, adjust the pointer speed and acceleration rate, and choose options such as showing pointer trails, hiding the pointer while typing, showing the location of the pointer.

System Defender :

A quick scan checks the places on your computer's hard disk where spyware is most likely to infect. A full scan will check all files on your hard disk and all currently running programs, but the scan might cause your computer to run slowly until the scan is complete.
The windows security is abit of a mess, my settings have been profiled but for some reason the the Automatic Updates and Virus Protection dont seem to conform. There fore ive made the automatic updates a manual task as having virus protection is the essential point of the defence , without that my systems will fail no doubt!

Desktop:
EASY! The desktops theme can be dealt with , without any hassle in mind. Right click on the screen and go to properties and task the tab which says Themes(as if it would say anything else), then just press the drop down list and get the theme you need, you happy?? click OK and there you are!

Folders:

By default, folders appear in Microsoft Windows as folder icons or as pictures that are contained in the folder. If you change these view settings or customize a folder, Windows remembers your settings when you open the folder again. You can use the folder's View menu to change the view settings for the folder.

Drive Formatting:

Drive formatting is when files or profiles are either wiped clean or compressed from a driver or an usb (a temporary driver which can be used as back up space or to increase speed). Though files are deleted this formatting means all malware and dangerous insertions can be removed clean from the drive and the driver will be restored to a better state.

Language Settings :

Click Start and then Control PanelIn Control Panel, if you are in Category View, click on Switch to Classic View (top left corner)Open Regional and Language Options.
Click on the Languages tab.Under Text services and input languages, click on the Details button.Under Installed services, click Add.In the Add Input Language dialog box, choose the input language and keyboard layout or Input Method Editor (IME) you want to add.
Click OK twice. You should now see a language indicator in the System Tray (located at bottom right hand corner of the desktop by default).
